Squid Game Season 2 is coming on Netflix

The hit Netflix Korean drama, Squid Game is back with more blood, ink, and violence.

The streaming service just announced that they will be releasing the second season of this popular show and if the first season and its 50 million global viewers is any indication, then season two is a guaranteed home run.

In Netflix’s social media pages, they announced that Squid Game the sequel is going to be released in 2023 or 2024. Writer-director Hwang Dong Hyuk, who previously indicated that he wasn’t sure if this would work as most K dramas end in one season, even made the announcement.

The second season of Squid Game is coming soon! The returning cast and plot ideas will be revealed in this article, so read on for all the details.

When can we watch it?
With only three pages of script written, it seems likely that we may see the end of Squid Game Season 2 around 2024. For now though Hwang revealed he’s still figuring out what direction this story should take us in next.

While we don’t know for sure when the next season is going to premiere, he did mention in a Vanity Fair interview that we can “expect more games which test humanity.”

Any Trailers?

Yes… and no. There isn’t any material out there that gives you a decent clue about Season 2, but there are some really very interesting teasers on Twitter that keep you wanting more.

What’s the plot?
Squid Game’s first season left us with an epic cliffhanger. The lead character, Seong Gi-hun did not board his flight after realizing that the game is still open and those behind it are watching him. Apart from this, we don’t quite know what to expect.

Who’s coming back?
Hwang mentioned in his post on Twitter that Gi-hun (Lee Jung Jae) will be returning for Squid Game Season 2. The audience loved the character’s performance in season one, and it would be fascinating to see what he does next.

Gi-hun is an exciting character who escaped poverty, but his morals aren’t letting him live peacefully. Jung Jae, the kind-hearted protagonist will be joined by Lee Byung-hun, who played the Front Man in season one. The Front Man’s character is now overseeing games on an island with other masked men from his group! It’s unclear if we’ll see him again but fans are excited about seeing what happens next after the first season.

Netflix officially renewed Hwang Dong-hyuk’s “Squid Game” for a second season.

In a statement, the streamer and show’s director, writer, and executive producer confirmed the return of Seong Gi-hun from Lee Jung-Jae’s The Front Man, Gong Yoo’s “man in the suit,” as well as Young-hee’s deadly animatronic boyfriend, Cheol-su.

“It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life last year. But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular series ever,” Hwang shared in the letter. “Join us once more for a whole new round.”

Reports of a second season have been circulating since Squid Game became one of Netflix’s most-watched programs, but this is the first time both Hwang and the streamer have officially confirmed the news. The series’ creator previously stated that the show would have a second season, but the director now says he was prepared to write one in the event there was a demand for it. It was simply a matter of waiting for the right offer.

According to Indiewire, it was just a matter of time. “for myself and the audience. Just in case there is another season, these things could be loose knots. I only currently have an overall storyline. I’m in the process of structuring the story and the new games and wanting to crystallize them into more detailed ideas.”

Here’s the complete statement from the game’s creator. Stay tuned for more information on Squid Game season two.
