About ‘House of the Dragon’:

House of the Dragon is an American fantasy drama television series independently created by George R.R Martin and Ryan Condal as a prequel to Game of Thrones (2011-2019). Both television series stems from Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novels. The showrunners are Condal and Miguel Sapochnik. The series is set about 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. It is 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen, a descendant of the eponymous royal house, and 100 years after Seven Kingdoms was united by force under Targaryen’s rule. The novel, “Dance of the Dragons” covers the events leading up to and resulting in House Targaryen’s civil war.

In October 2019, House of the Dragon was ordered straight to series. A little over a year later in July 2020, casting for the show began, with principle photography set to start April 2021 in the United Kingdom. The series premiered on August 21, 2022 and five days later was renewed for a second season. The first season consisted of ten episodes. After Sapochnik finished showrunning the first season, Condal took over as the sole showrunner for the second season. The series premiere was watched by over 10 million viewers, the biggest in HBO’s history.

‘House of the Dragon’ Enters HBO History as Most-Watched Season Finale Since’ Game of Thrones’

House of the Dragon’s season one finale shatters HBO’s records, becoming their most-watched season finale since Game of Thrones.

As compared to three years, ago, 9.3 million more people tuned in to watch the season finale of “The Black Queen” on Sunday night. Although this is still significantly lower than the 19.8 million viewers who watched the series finale of Game of Thrones, it exceeds House of Dragon’s record high earlier in the season by 800 thousand views, with 10.2 million total during episode two.

“We’re so thrilled to see House of the Dragon catch fire with Game of Thrones fans around the world, as well as new viewers who are discovering the world of Westeros for the first time,” said Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max. “Congrats to George, Ryan, Miguel, and the whole House of the Dragon team on an incredible first season.”

The following season of House of the Dragon is set to premiere in 2024.

House of the Dragon’s first season was reasonably slow-paced, focusing much on relationships and tension between Targaryens. However, things started to pick up speed towards the end of the series, resulting in an inspiring finale. Now that fans have had time to process everything that happened, many wonders when Season 2 is coming out.

The show’s second season was confirmed five days after its premiere, which broke records with nearly 10 million viewers in the United States. Ryan Condal, the series’ producer, says that filming for Season 2 will start in early 2023. This means that fans can expect the show to return in either late 2023 or early 2024 and focus on the civil war known as the Dance of Dragons.

“Because of the incredibly demanding production schedule of the show, facets of the show have to overlap with one another, which means that we were writing Season 2 long before they ever announced it, while we were in post in Season 1. So we really have to storm right into the making of Season 2 now in order to keep pace with fans’ healthy appetites for material and HBO’s need and desire to release the show in a reasonable timeframe from season to season,” says Condal.

Season 1 of the House of Dragon is now accessible on HBO Max.

The show’s season one finale became HBO’s most-watched since ‘GoT.’

HBO is looking to produce more Game of Thrones spinoffs, thanks to the success of House of the Dragon.

Casey Bloys of HBO stated that their next project would likely be the second season of the show. In addition, they will begin developing spinoffs with George R.R. Martin as soon as he finds a story he “is happy with” He continued,” I try not to comment too much [on] development, so there’s not a whole lot to say, other than when we find the story that George is happy with, and we’re happy with, we’ll move forward.”

The HBO exec refused to comment on whether the network would release a spinoff show yearly; they said: “Well, let’s see.” He added, “That would be nice. That would be nice.”

The season one finale of House of the Dragon, entitled “The Black Queen,” was viewed by 9.3 million people across all platforms during its premiere on Sunday night. This makes it HBO’s most-watched season finale since the series ender of Game of Thrones.
