8 Quick Tips to Becoming a SUCCESSFUL Actor

Date:

Are you interested in acting but, not too sure where to start or how to become a “SUCCESSFUL ACTOR”?

For actors that are just starting out, struggling, or have hit a wall, here are 8 quick tips to becoming a successful actor

  1. Constantly work on something. As an actor you should never sit by the phone and wait for the opportunity.
  2. It is up to you to get work and to get noticed. No one will work harder on your career than you.
  3. Find out who the casting directors are in your area. If you do not live in an area where this is a large market try moving into a bigger market such as Atlanta, Wilmington, and New Orleans. Find these casting directors and audition for them.
  4. Make sure you have a reputable agent. Don’t have an agent? Contact SAG (Screen Actors Guild) for a list of SAG franchised agencies. This will ensure that you are dealing with a reputable agent and not a scam-artist. Also, when looking for an agent, make sure they have a website a client list. Also, check to see if their clients are working and that they are not full with a ton of clients.
  5. Work. Work and work some more. Do plays, do indies, and yes, do student films. This will help you develop a reel.
  6. During a play, you should invite casting directors and agents to come see you if you don’t have an agent or if you don’t know a casting director. Make sure to talk to them after the show to solidify your contact!
  7. These are basic tips. But don’t be afraid to ask others for help along the way. For example, “Where can I find a monologue that is like (blank)”; “What do you think of recording my auditions on a rode mic instead of my cell phone?” “Can you check my headshots?” Acting is all about networking and who you know. If you don’t or make friends in the entertainment industry you are most likely hurting yourself.
  8. Have Fun!
