ESPN is now hiring Stage managers in Connecticut.

Working as a Stage Manager at ESPN is an exciting job! You will be the eyes and ears of the Director in both studio settings and remote productions. Your job is to ensure that all sets are in place and that production positions are staffed. You have to anticipate problems that may arise during production and let the Director know about them. It’s also your responsibility to communicate any rundown changes and how they may affect camera blocking and talent positions in the studio.

Your accountabilities include: overseeing an assigned studio; ensuring that the Director has all materials and equipment needed; arranging the positioning of floor monitors based on talent locations; participating in pre-production activities; coordinating with and ensuring availability of assigned talent and guests; assisting with studio floor management; identifying issues with studios or production staff, reporting them, and following up for resolution; ensuring compliance with established standard operating procedures; managing/distributing props; sending out daily communications of stage manager coverage.

For this position, specific qualifications must be met. Candidates should be highly motivated, willing to work unusual hours, able to work under pressure, have a minimum of 1-year experience in a major market or at the network level (preferred), be bilingual (English/Spanish preferred), have a high school diploma or equivalent (desired Bachelor’s Degree).

Stage Manager I

The Stage Manager I position supports Studio & Remote productions activities. The Stage Manager will be the eyes and ears for the Director in the studio and on stage for remote productions, relaying specific directions to talent and the technical crew. Ensure that all sets are in place and that production positions are staffed. Anticipate, and troubleshoot if necessary, problems that may arise in the studio during production and alert the Director to any potential issues. Communicate any rundown changes and how they may affect camera blocking and talent positions in the studio.

 

Accountabilities:

  • Oversees an assigned studio. Ensures the Director has all materials and equipment needed to direct the production. Ensures that sets are in place and working; and that needed studio positions are staffed.
  • Ensures talent needs are met regarding equipment, including iPads, proper chairs, pens/papers, and mirrors.
  • Arranges the positioning of floor monitors based on talent locations.
  • Participates in pre-production activities.
  • Coordinates with and ensures the availability of assigned talent and guests.
  • Assists the Director with studio floor management activities; controls the live or live-to-tape aspects of productions.
  • Identifies and reports issues with studios and production staff to the appropriate organizational unit; follows up to ensure the resolution of identified studio operation issues.
  • Ensures compliance of assigned tasks with established standard operating procedures.
  • Oversees the management and distribution of studio props.
  • Sends out daily communication of Stage Manager coverage.
  • Practices and maintains the performance standards as they apply to leadership, communication, operations, personal development, and productions, and consistently performs all of the duties and functions required of the role of Stage Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must be highly motivated, willing to work unusual hours, and capable of working under pressure to meet ever-changing deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1-year experience in a major market or at the network level
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish
