Stranger Things cast and crew shares details behind the casting process of the hit Netflix show.

The 2018 Emmy Awards are coming soon and Stranger Things was nominated for several awards including Outstanding Casting of a Drama Series. Netflix, as part of its “For Your Consideration” campaign, put together this video about casting the show, which includes scenes from the show,  interviews, and behind-the-scenes antics. 

Series creators the Duffer Brothers talk about how important it was for them to find “Real”kids to play the heroes of the show. The actors, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, and Sadie Sink, discuss how they are genuine friends.

David Harbour gets a shout out for being a true profession, how he takes over any scene he is in, and how the kids respect him. The Duffer Brothers discuss casting 1980s icons like Sean Astin and Paul Reiser, while promising they are not trying to be “cute” by casting nostalgic actors.

The casting director the show, Carmen Cuba, discusses the importance of casting; how she auditions well-known, veteran actors respectfully and why background actors matters to creating the perfect overall look for the show.

The 2018 Emmy Awards will air September 17 on NBC. Stranger Things Season 3 is expected to drop on Netflix sometime in 2019.
