John Legend to Develop Black Wall Street TV Series for WGN

Date:

Black Wall Street TV series coming soon to WGN thanks to John Legend.

Following the success of Underground, John Legend is developing a new TV series for the TV network.

According to The Wrap, the currently untitled TV series is still in development but, the production will be produced alongside The Haves and The Have Nots’ star, Tika Sumpter.

In case you did not know, Black Wall Street was referred to a neighborhood in Tulsa, Oklahoma. During the early 20th century, it was one of the wealthiest and most affluent black communities in the United States. Until, hundreds of whites led a racially motivated attack on the black neighborhood killing 300 people. The attack destroyed a large majority of the area and more than 800 people were admitted to the hospital and 6,000 black residents were arrested and detained.

John Legend is currently working as an executive producer on the hit WGN series Underground, which is now filming in Savannah, Georgia. The show is also based on the Underground Railroad, and follows runaway slaves as they try to make it to freedom. The show was a hit and helped increase WGN America’s ratings by 1,000%.

Underground season 2 is now hiring actors, models, and talent to work on the new season. For more information click here.
