Warner Bros. Can Lose Over $100 Million Thanks to ‘Pan’

Date:

Warner Bros. can possibly lose over $100 million dollars following the release of ‘Pan’.

According to reports, the Pan movie can ultimately setback the Warner Bros. and partner RatPac-Dune Entertainment more than $100 million.

The prequel, which was directed by Joe Wright and featured Hugh Jackman, Amanda Seyfried, Garret Hedlund and Rooney Mara, only brought in $15 million dollars in the United States. That is only 10% of production costs for the $150 million produced Peter Pan remake.

That means the movie will probably only bring in $50 million in North America, and possibly $160 million overseas, the movie could end up only making $115 million, though rights sales, DVD sales, merchandise, etc. can help alleviate the costs.

From The Wrap:

That means it will likely top out under $50 million in North America, and it appears on course for another $160 million overseas. With the film’s $150 million production budget and marketing costs roughly half that, the red ink could hit $115 million, though rights sales and home entertainment could help ease the financial pain.

It’s impossible to precisely calculate the toll because there are several unknowns including where the film tops out domestically, what it does overseas (especially in China) and revenues for home entertainment and TV rights sales.

It is important to point out that Pan is the third Box Office disaster this year, following February’s Jupiter Ascending and Man From UNCLE, in February and August respectively. The combined losses of those two movies alone are more than $200 million. In addition, Warner Bros. didn’t have any breakout hit movies this year following the disappointing Magic Mike XXL, Run All Night, Vacation, Hot Pursuit and Gallows releases.

Sadly for Warner Bros. Disney has dominated the film industry recently with major motion pictures such as Star Wars and Marvel productions. None of Warner Bros. five remaining 2015 are expected to make more than $100 million in the United States box office, according to TheWrap. Although, the upcoming Creed, the Rocky spin-off, has the possibility to be a major box office hit.
