Robin Roberts GMA anchor publicly announces her longtime girlfriend Amber Laign
Robin Roberts, anchor of ABC’s morning show “Good Morning America” has recently come out as gay in a recent Facebook page post.
Robin Robert’s sexuality was not a secret to her friends and family and even co-workers for some time, but this was the first time that she mentioned her longtime girlfriend Amber Laign.
“I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together,” she wrote in the post, which was a thank-you for those who had supported her following her bone marrow transplant last year.
Robin Roberts was diagnosed in 2012 with MDS, myelodysplastic syndrome and was forced to take a leave from Good Morning America to undergo bone marrow transplant in October of 2012. She was able to return to the show in February 20, 2013.
It is interesting to note that the National Marrow Donor Program had an increase in the number of bone marrow donors the day Roberts went public with her illness. Robin Roberts is not the only person to that came out to the public about their sexuality. CNN newscaster Anderson Cooper came out with Andrew Sullivan in July of 2012 and former Good Morning America weatherman Sam Champion as he announced that he planned to marry his boyfriend Rubem Robierb.
