“Riverdale” Shuts Down Production After Luke Perry’s Death

Riverdale” has shut down production for the day after the news of Luke Perry‘s death.

According to Variety, “Riverdale” has shut down filming for the day following the news of Luke Perry’s death. Moreover, Variety reports the series executive producers executive producers Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, and Jon Goldwater issued the following statement along with Warner Bros. Television and the CW:

“We are deeply saddened to learn today about the passing of Luke Perry. A beloved member of the ‘Riverdale,’ Warner Bros. and CW family, Luke was everything you would hope he would be: an incredibly caring, consummate professional with a giant heart, and a true friend to all. A father figure and mentor to the show’s young cast, Luke was incredibly generous, and he infused the set with love and kindness. Our thoughts are with Luke’s family during this most difficult time.”

Luke Perry played Fred Andrews, the father of Archie Andrews on the hit CW series and had a major role in the show since the beginning. He died Monday after suffering a stroke last Wednesday. Currently, it is not known how the show will move forward with the loss of Luke Perry and whether or not his character will be recast or written off.
