Hasbro is working on a new Power Rangers movie.
The Power Rangers made a massive return to the big screen last year with the release of Paramount’s live-action reboot. The big budget feature film was not a gigantic hit in the box office, as the movie grossed just $142 million worldwide. This performance was a massive hit to the franchise, as Saban and Paramount discussed making up to seven sequels.
Last May, it was announced Hasbro had purchased the right to the Power Rangers and several other Saban brands. Now, there is news that a new movie is in early development by Hasbro and reportedly Paramount Pictures, who have a relationship with Transformers and G.I. Joe film franchises.
According to Inside Licensing, Paramount and Hasbro’s All Spark Pictures are going to develop another Power Rangers movie that’s a sequel to the 2017 feature film.
Since Hasbro acquired the Power Rangers brand, the company has decided to make more Power Rangers movies. However, it is believed they would reboot the franchise instead of sticking with the first one that did not do exceptionally well at the box office. Hasbro could be looking to the future and focusing on keeping the talented cast.
The future of the franchise will depend upon the business decisions. A smaller budget could help the movie make a more significant profit at the box office, and a different vision could be received better by audiences. From Hasbro’s perspective, one reason why they chose to move forward could be toy sales. Power Rangers merchandising was a hit, even though the movie was not a major box office success.
The sequel is in early stages, so do not expect it to hit theaters anytime soon. They will have to decide whether or not director Dean Israelite will turn.
