Netflix is Moving Forward with a New ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ Series

Date:

Netflix is moving forward with a new ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ series.

(Update: Saturday, January 10, 2015): Netflix is moving forward on a new ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ sequel series. According to reports, 15 years after the cult feature film ended, the cast of Wet Hot American Summer is getting back together.

From The Hollywood Reporter:

The project, previously eyed as a prequel, will return as an eight-episode limited series for Netflix, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Plot details were not immediately available. It’s unclear which of the original castmembers will return, but all the original stars — JaneaneGarofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Paul Rudd, Molly Shannon, ChristopherMeloni, Elizabeth Banks, Michael Ian Black, Bradley Cooper and AmyPoehler, among others — are expected to be back.

Netflix has not commented on the potential series, but Variety reports that sources say the series would center on the high school lives of the movie’s cast, which feature Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Elizabeth Banks, Ken Marino, Molly Shannon, Christopher Meloni, Janeane Garofalo, and David Hyde Pierce.

The movie was a major flop in the box office making less than $300,000 but since then, the movie has become a cult classic.

(May 24, 2014) Variety reports that Netflix is currently in talks in a potential 10-episode prequel to the cult classic movie “Wet Hot American Summer”.

The movie also featured a young version of Bradley Cooper, who shared a steamy scene with Michael Ian Black.

According to Variety, the series is to film in the same way the fourth season of Arrested Development was filmed where not every cast member is in each episode.

The original ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ centered on the last day of camp, in the hot summer of 1981, a group of counselors try to complete their unfinished business before the day ends.

It would be interesting to see actors playing a younger version of themselves 20 years later.
