‘Mad Max’ Had 450 Hours of Footage and Tom Hardy Was Pissed

Date:

Tom Hardy was forced to apologize to Mad Max director after watching the movie’s final cut.

‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ is a movie that took George Miller 12 years to create. The director allegedly didn’t want to make another Mad Max movie once he finished ‘Beyond Thunderdome.’ Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Tom Hardy had doubts about Miller’s vision during production and said he owed the director an apology after seeing the movie’s final cut:

Turning to director George Miller, seated beside him at Thursday’s Cannes press conference, he explained: “I have to apologize to you, because I got frustrated [during the movie’s shoot]. There was no way that George could have explained what he had conceived.”

His doubts are pretty understandable as it was a total of 450 hours of footage shot. George Miller and Tom Hardy were joined by Nicholas Hoult and Charlize Theron at the Cannes Film Festival press conference and when the film’s feminist nature was brought up, George Miller cleared up the air:

“Initially, there wasn’t a feminist agenda,” Miller insisted. Instead, the movie was simply designed to be an extended chase, and “the thing that people were chasing was to be not an object, but the five wives. I needed a warrior. But it couldn’t be a man taking five wives from another man. That’s an entirely different story. So everything grew out of that.”

‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ currently holds a 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Hopefully, Warner Bros. can produce another interesting sequel to the series.
