Johnny Depps‘ movie City of Lights was pulled a month before its release date.
City of Lies, a movie where Johnny Depp plays an LAPD detective investigating the murder of Biggie Smalls, has been pulled from theaters just a few weeks before its release date.
The movie was set to hit theaters on September 7th, which would have been the rapper’s 46th birthday. The release date has not been set, which suggest that whatever stalled the movie’s opening must be pretty serious.
City of Lies had reportedly had several problems.
The news comes less than month after the film’s location manager sued Depp, accusing the actor of assault and battery on the set in April 2017. Gregg “Rocky” Brooks said he was repeatedly hit by Depp after being informed that filming that night in downtown L.A. was going to have to wrap late. The 10-claim suit, which also names Furman and producers Miriam Segal, Good Film Productions and Depp’s Infinitum Nihil, seeks damages for hostile work environment, retaliation, and wrongful termination among the claims. Depp is facing accusations by two former bodyguards claiming he did not pay them and he put them in “toxic” situations.
