Hall of Fame Hollywood Stuntmen Killed in Accident

Two Hollywood Hall of Fame Stuntmen were killed in a traffic accident.

Retired stuntmen Gary McLarty and Bob Orrison worked together in films such as “The Wild Bunch” and “Days of Thunder” died Saturday as a result of a traffic accident in Rancho Cordova, California. McLarty was 73, and Orrison was 86.

The friends were traveling together in a pickup truck when they were hit by a Jeep Cherokee, according to reports. “It was a direct hit,” Sacramento Sheriff’s spokesman Lisa Bowman told the paper. The men were pronounced dead at the scene.

“These are people who spent their adult life doing dangerous things in a calculated way,” McLarty’s wife Hillorie told Merced Sun-Star. “It defies my imagination.” She had dropped McLarty off at Orrison’s home an hour before the crash.

McLarty retired after a 40 year career in Hollywood that included doing stunts in movies such as “The Longest Yard,” “The Terminator,” “Waterworld” and even “Showgirls.” He was also the stunt coordinator in the first two “Beverly Hills Cop” movies and “The Blues Brothers”.

Orrison worked as a stuntman into his 70s. He worked on several productions including “The Dukes of Hazzard,” and “Speed.” He was also featured in the original “Star Trek” series, “Die Hard 2,” “Rambo III” and “Stargate”
