Disney Announces 9 More Live-Action Movies

Date:

Disney announces new live-action movies are now in development for Walt Disney Studios.

Following the success of Disney’s Jungle Book it looks like the Mickey Mouse club is going to create more live-action movies. Disney’s The Jungle Book earned $500 million in the box office. The Jon-Favreau directed movie defied expectations in it’s second weekend, falling a mere 41% to $60.8 million. Overseas, Jungle Book earned another $96 million.

Disney’s The Jungle Book demonstrates the company’s domination in the box office. The movie studio’s decision to make classic cartoon movies and turn them into live-action thrillers has become an extremely smart decision in hindsight.

Walt Disney Studios’ upcoming movie releases include three exciting movies, Alice Through the Looking Glass, Beauty and the Beast, and Pete’s Dragon. Now Disney’s Live Action team is currently reimagining several other classic Disney movies for modern audiences.

Here’s a breakdown of the upcoming live-action movies. From Disney:

Cruella with Emma Stone set for the title role and Kelly Marcel writing.

A Wrinkle in Time with Ava DuVernay attached to direct and Jennifer Lee writing.

Jungle Cruise with Dwayne Johnson set to star and John Requa and Glenn Ficarra writing.

Dumbo with director Tim Burton and writer Ehren Kruger.

A sequel to Mary Poppins with director Rob Marshall, starring Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Maleficent 2 with Angelia Jolie set to return in the title role and Linda Wolverton writing.

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms with director Lasse Hallstrom and writer Ashleigh Powell.

The Jungle Book 2 with both director Jon Favreau and writer Justin Marks returning.

A Tinker Bell project with Reese Witherspoon set to star and Victoria Strouse writing.

But, Disney announced that they are also planning on releasing five additional live action movies to be released in 2017 through 2019.
