The CW Has Pulled the Plug on ‘The Originals’

Date:

The Originals season 5 will be the final season for the Atlanta filmed TV series.

After an amazing run with over 79 episodes, the fifth season of The Originals will mark its conclusion. The hit vampire drama, which is a spinoff of The CW’s The Vampire Diaries, will be coming to an end this year.

The announcement was made by the show’s executive producer, Julie Plec, who took to social media to post an emotional letter to fans.

This announcement comes just one year after it was revealed that The Vampire Diaries would end after its eighth season. Plec noted:

“[I]t’s been a year since we announced the end of ‘The Vampire Diaries’. It feels only fitting to use this anniversary to make a second farewell announcement:

This year we invite you to help us say goodbye to ‘The Originals’, which begins shooting its fifth and final season on Monday.”

Plec commented on both the gift and the curse of being able to control the ending of a TV series, reminiscing about how she celebrated the end of The Vampire Diaries. She then added that fans can join them at San Diego Comic Con 2017 to celebrate the show’s final season.

“Celebrate with us, cry with us, visit with us, watch us next Spring when we air… and know that in a show about an immortal family who believes in “Always and Forever”, it’s never really the end of the story”.

The Originals began airing in 2013 and went to become one of the most popular shows at the time. The Atlanta filmed series did considerably well. Centering around the Original vampires Klaus, Elijah and Rebekah Mikealson the show highlighted the importance of family.
