Bat Kid was supposed to appear in last Sunday’s Academy Awards.
Batkid is the superhero name of Miles Scott, a five-year old kindergartner and cancer survivor who is currently in remission. His wish was to be “Batkid”, sidekick of Batman. Once the request went out, thousands of volunteers, city officials, businesses and supporters rallied to turn San Francisco, California into “Gotham City” – the fictional home city of Batman – on November 15, 2013 for one of the largest and most elaborateMake-A-Wish projects ever staged.
Miles was invited by the Academy to participate in a segment during the live telecast, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Miles and his family traveled to Los Angeles, but on the day of the ceremony it was canceled.
“I don’t know if they ran out of time, or if there was something about the segment they didn’t like,”Natalie Scott, Miles’ mother, told the International Business Times. “It got pulled so quickly that we didn’t have a lot of insight into what was going on.”
Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Miles was supposed to appear with The Amazing Spider-man star Andrew Garfield. But, during a Saturday run-through, it was decided that the segment was not working too well.
“Basically, because of the fluid nature of live TV production, ultimately the segment didn’t work,” an Academy spokesperson says.
Perhaps, the segment was replaced with the world’s most popular tweet.
