“How to Catch a Monster” will star Christina Hendricks, is a film actually written by the Oscar nominated actor and is set to start filming this upcoming spring, according to the Los Angeles Times. “The film, set in what a news release described as a “surreal dreamscape of a vanishing city,” follows a single mother whose teenage son uncovers a frightening and mysterious underwater town.”

Ryan Gosling has always showed an interest in this genre of films. For example, his band with Zach Shields often times perform songs about ghosts, and once filmed a music video in a cemetery. This music video definitely illustrates the direction Ryan Gosling plans to have for the upcoming “How to Catch a Monster” feature film.
The film is centered on “elements of fantasy noir, horror and suspense into a modern day fairytale. Set against the surreal dreamscape of a vanishing city, Billy, a single mother of two, is swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while Bones, her 18-yr-old son, discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town. Both Billy and Bones must dive deep into the mystery, if their family is to survive.”
In order to expand the search for actors in this upcoming motion picture, Jennifer Venditti and Ryan Gosling have decided to hold a an open Casting Call and are currently casting for two different roles.
The first role is Bones:
- “He is an introspective loner with an active imagination. His challenging home life has toughned him, but he still clings to childhood fantasies. Balancing melancholy intensity with an innocent sense of wonder, he is driven by a strong desire to face his fears. Soulful, offbeat and quietly charismatic.
- Character should be caucasian or multi-ethnic, his mother is white and his father could be any ethnicity.
The Second Role is Frankie:
- A “feral” like boy who is constantly getting into trouble for trying to escape his school and house. Quiet and withdrawn but with an expressive face and deeply active internal life. Almost reminiscent of a silent film character.

“How to Catch a Monster” is a Marc Platt Productions, Phantasma Productions, in association with Bold Films and the film will be filmed in Detroit, Michigan.

When I read the description of Bones, I felt like I was reading a description of myself. Coming from a small town in Nova Scotia, Canada, there isn’t much to do aside from sit around, smoke pot, get in the occasional fight, and fantasize about bigger, better things. I submitted my audition tape to Cast It Talent, but hopefully by posting this here the producers/casting directors will understand my deep, unrelenting desire to be a part of this film.
I’m a huge fan of Mr. Gosling’s work and I think coming from small Canadian towns would definitely help us in understanding one another, but more importantly, it would help me in understanding HIS vision.

I am interested in that role of Bones, i am from Europe. Why i would be considered? Not because i want to be famous, to make it in Hollywood industry, to have success, to have power, to feed my ego or anything like that, you want to now why?
Well, my answer is because acting is much more than all that to me, it’s of course a passion, but it reveals something from us human being, something that connect “US” to “THEM”, “Me” to “YOU”, “YOU” to “YOURSELF”, “ME” to “MYSELF”…yeah there is something with Arts and Artists in general, but especially with Acting who to me is the most powerful way to express ideas, to entertain and to ask questions about “US”, about who we are, and everyday i’m working on that idea that one day i can be part of that wonderful group of Artists to share with people my sensitivity and my love to this world and human kind in general.
So basically this is why i have to be considered, because i have something to say, to bring on screen, to share with all of you guys;)

My grandmother died yesterday…… I have only minimal experience as an actor but originally had planned to pursue acting. I recently moved to LA to pursue a career in audio engineering; however, lately I’ve been watching a lot of great films and have been really inspired by certain characters. I honestly can’t express why I should be considered for Bones, other than the feeling I got from reading his Bio. As a introverted child growing up with a single mother and falling in with a bad crowd and leading me down a dark path for most of my life, I’ve had to face certain fears head on (Half Nelson honestly made me reevaluate my life decisions to that point). Nowadays, I’m in school in Chicago, working my ass off in all forms of filmmaking (acting, writing, producing, scoring, art dept.) and actually excelling in them…
I’ve been blessed to be able to be in over 40 films in the two years I’ve been here from student shorts to experimental theatre to most independent featurea. I’ve been lucky to have been taught by some of Chicago’s well-known actors and directors and through conversing with them, they each have said I should start to seek more professional work. So as I read the bio for Bones, I’m blown away at the similarities between us even though there isn’t a great deal of information. I’m blown away because the details used to describe Bones are the same things I describe myself as, most importantly the desire to face his fears and curiosity. Carl Jung’s theory of the shadow self has always intrigued me, and my ability to portray the Human Condition has lead me into this field full of risks and uncertainties.
So I’ll close with this. If Gosling wants a punk kid who can play a range from 16-early 30′s (baby faced/ great beard), has excelled in every role I’ve portrayed, has a “great screen presence” (always get compared to young Jack Nicholson/Gary Oldman/ and Mr. Gosling), a hard look with an overactive mind, and has a great grasp on both the Human Condition/Behavior and how to portray that to the screen… then let me play Bones, it’s fate I’m even here today, maybe it’s fate to be in this movie. I mean, I even have “Mommy’s Little Monster” tattooed on my body.
