Star Wars Episode VII Auditions Move to New Venue Location in Manchester after Large Crowds

Project Casting

A new venue in Manchester has been announced for this weekend’s open auditions for Star Wars Episode 7.

Casting agent Claire Curry confirmed on Twitter that the auditions on Saturday and Sunday would now take place at Lancashire County Cricket Club from 11am to 3pm instead of the Progress Centre.

Producers decided to look for a bigger space after thousands of fans flocked to the open auditions in Bristol last weekend.

Curry tweeted: ‘The previous venue meant we wouldn’t be able to see everyone, this one means we can try and see a lot more.’

Disney are holding a series of open auditions to cast two lead roles – Rachel and Thomas, who are described as ‘smart and athletic’.

Accoridng to LucasFilm, casting director for Marvels The Avengers, and Inception, Maryellen Aviano,  will be looking for two roles:

  1. No.1: A young female, 17-18 years old, “street smart, independent, athletic, natural beauty… all ethnicities, multi & bi-racial.”  (The character is named “Rachel” and was “quite young when she lost her parents. With no other family, she was forced to make her way alone in a tough, dangerous town… Always a survivor, never a victim, she remains hopeful…”)
  2. No. 2: A young male to play 19-23 years old (though the actor must be older than 18). The role is described as “athletic, smart, handsome, independent spirited.” (The character is named  “Thomas,” and he has “grown up without a father’s influence. Without the model of being a man, he doesn’t have the strongest sense of himself.”)

Interested applicants can also submit an application online before the Dec. 3 deadline as well as read more about the characters.

Disney recently announced that the new Star Wars movie, directed by J.J. Abrams, is scheduled for release Dec. 18, 2015.
